Each month, the Independence / Eastern Jackson County Emergency Preparedness Division hosts a Community Emergency Preparedness Class. These classes run each month on the 3rd Saturday from 10 AM until Noon, covering Emergency Preparedness topics such as:
Utility Safety [January & July
Weather Safety [February & October]
First Aid [March & August]
72-Hour Kits / Go Bags [April & September]
Emergency Plans for Families [May & November]
Food Storage [June & December]
These classes are completely free and open to everyone! Classes are located at the Emergency Operations Center inside Fire Station #1:

Parking is on the West [entrance from 24 HWY] and Southeast [entrance from Spring Street].
- If you park in the West lot, you will have direct access to the EOC's entrance to the right of the concrete staircase leading up to the Fire Station.
- If you park in the Southeast lot, you will need to follow the sidewalk North along Spring until you reach 24 HWY, then turn Left/West until you reach the West lot's entrance. From there, turn left and head South down the hill. You will turn left again to see the EOC entrance next to the concrete stairs leading up to the Fire Station.
